First nice fish 5/6

Dang the luck I caught my first nice fish of the year. Not a huge fish but a good one none the least. I just hope the fishing stays good for another week or so. There's a kccatfish tournament at Kaw point on the 17th of may. This is going to be the first night tournament of the year. Should be some real good weight turned in. Just hope these gas prices come back down. Don't want to have people not show up because of the price of fuel. They should just tell those tree hugging pricks to go to hell and start drilling off our cost. That and start drilling in the rockies. Like they say just tap the rockies. Screw the rest of the world they can deal with opec. I just want to go fishing for cheap and not have to spend 120 bucks to fill up the truck and the boat. Not having to spend 500 bucks a month to go fishing and to go to work every day. Oh well if it gets much higher I know a good boat thats going to be for sale. Hey did I forget to mention that i'm 2 for 2 on tournaments. Why don't you all come pay and play the game. I could earn another boat payment from you all by going 3 for 3 on tournament wins.

Later....

April 26 Kc catfish tourny

First place again. We are kicking ass and taking names this year. Two tournaments into this season and we won both of them. We had a good turn out this time. 11 teams showed up not bad for a day tournament. I would like to say thanks for all the St. Joe missouri guys for coming. You all are a great bunch of guys. The winning ticket was another run to the 435 dam. Just us and Capt. catfish and Matt went up there. They killed us on numbers of fish but we got them on weight. We left the damn a little after 10pm and headed to the Missouri River. Where we only caught one fish the rest of the tournament. The next tournament will be our first night tournament of the year. This is going to be a good one. We will have some nice heavy stringers brought in i know that. The big ones are really starting to bite but so far only at night it seems. Hoping to have another nice turn out to this one too. Guy's if you don't know about this product you really need to try it out. Team Catfish blood spray. April 19th and 20th

The fish are starting to dust them selfs off and start eating again. At least thats what I'm told. Went fishing Sat. and Sun. no fish but still had a good time. The weather was warm although a bit windy it was still nice to be out there in a t-shirt. I did run into some fish on the Missouri River on sunday. Lost a big one. Probably mid 30's to 40's range. Fish was still peeling drag off when I was fighting him. Have no idea how I lost him but I think it had to do with a too small of hook. I now have double action team catfish 8/0 hooks on all my rods. I know of a 90 pound blue that was landed on Saturday. I guess it came from 4 foot of water. For you all that fish tournaments.  There is a dandy coming up April 26th. Location is Kaw point. 7am take off.  Water temp is in the 60's on the Kansas and temp is high 50's on the Missouri. I tell ya what. Them fish are about to start going bonkers.

Spring is here so dust off them rods and reels. Or if your short on equipment you can go to www.shop.catfishsafari.com

TIp
of the week. Change your fishing line. Do not trust it no matter how good it looks. Its old and needs changed.

Warsaw April 13th

Well it was a snowy day in April but still a good day for fishing. Brad and I went down to fish below the dam there in Warsaw. Picked up a new catfish safari lake rod and an Okuma line counter reel from Steve. We put the boat in at Drake Harbor and headed over to the catfish safari cove. Bait was easy to come by once we found it. Saw Matt and Marty up above the walking bridge. They said they where just getting little bites no fish. We went ahead and tried a spot that looked fishy there. We got some smaller blues there nothing big just perfect eaters. Steve came out and anchored right by and started fishing he was on the outside. Man can he catch fish. Took him no time to almost catch up with us in numbers. You know if you guy's that need help catching fish need pointers. Hire Steve Brown on a guide trip. You will walk away with a good time and some fish under your belt. Or if you are just after some tackle go to his website www.shop.catfishsafari.com . I tell you what them rods are good and he has some good deals on some reels as well. Plus he has them team catfish hooks the best there is. I guess I need you to tell you how redneck snagging is for spoonbill. It is extremely hillbilly. We snagged and snagged and well we snagged 2 blue cats each about 20 pounds. About make a person sick. I still don't get it whats so fun about pumping them rods? Oh well I'll think about doing it again. I'm just not so sure about sticking another blue cat. Freaking crazy.

Hey for all you die hard catfishing fools there's a tournament coming up. Be there or be square!!
www.kccatfish.com is hosting another tournament at kaw point  April 26th 7am - 3pm should be a good one
Water should be warm and fish should be bitting real good.
Side note the PBSS flathead club is going to join us in June and July. These will be joint tournaments will be a lot of fun guys. Some big fish will be brought in.

March 29th KC Catfish Tournament

Well Saturday was the first tournament of the year. Considering the weather and how the fishing has been the turn out was not all that bad. 8 boats showed couple new ones that I have never seen before. Everyone seemed to have a good time.  Brad and I headed to the dam on the kansas river at 435.  We ended up catching 8 channel cats and a White bass/whyper or what ever it was. The biggest channel cat was little over 12 pounds. Our 5 fish where good enouigh for 35 pounds and 1st place though.  Andy, Randy and John and Alex where the only other 2 boats to get a limit of 5 fish. Big fish was caught by Dennis 27 pound Blue. Thats one of the nicest blues I have heard about this season so far.

Next tournament April 26th Location will be Kaw Point. Pictures from the last tournament are at www.kccatfish.com

March 22

Bait was kind of hard to get today. It was there if you where willing to work for it. I was out with Steve S. fishing the kaw. I think we only had one for sure bite. The weather was windy with a nice chill in the air. Well worth dealing with the cold though. No fish but it was good to get out. Water temp was 47-48 degrees. Another reminder for the tournament this Saturday march 29th. More info at www.kccatfish.com

First snagging trip

Well I went snagging for the very first time. I don't get it still. I did not find it that tiresome. It only took my girlfriend and I 5 min. after starting to stick our first spoonbill. I got the little 24inch spoonbill and she got a 15 pound blue. Kind of sickening. Sticking a bluecat with a 10/0 treble hook and having it's guts hanging out is sad. Then to top it off you can not keep them if there snagged. Just not right. That fish is a goner. Maybe they should outlaw snagging? The little spoonbill that I snagged should be alright got him in the gill plate and above the gill plate. No blood and gills where fine. Wonder how many of them little guy's die? Oh well I guess it's the only way to catch them. A side not though. It amazes me still that people would not use fish finders or they have them but use it only to read bottom depth. Watching them snaggers yesterday snagging the bottom with no fish showing up on my screen. The bottom would be empty and yet there just going at it. No wonder why so many go home empty handed. I guess it's just a hillbilly redneck thing to do. I'm more of a seek and destroy type of person. Why expend energy people?  Oh well..

Upcoming events. KCCATS ( www.kccatfish.com ) is having a tournament at KAW point on March 29th.

March 12

It turned out to be one hell of a nice day today. The temp. in the truck read 75 degrees. Who knows if it was right or not. Oh well it does not matter. I Hitched the boat up and headed to the river for the first time this year. Water temp was reading 50 degrees at kaw point and 45 up by 12st. bridge. Went over some holes where I have caught fish in the past and did not mark anything on the Lowrance. I guess we will see if this warm weather holds. Maybe the rain will trigger the fish to bite? Guess we will see. The water is heading in the right direction. It's game time.

Spring is almost here

Well it was in the 70's over the weekend. For those of you lucky enough to get out and do some fishing I'm envious of you. I finished getting the ice and draining the water out of my boat. I never got around to putting the cover on the boat this year I should of but did not. Once the ice and snow started building up I said for get it. While I was at it draining the boat I went ahead and installed my new 1/2" Driftmaster rod holders. Took all the old 3/8" ones off. I hear the fishing was bad over the weekend down at Warsaw. Heard some people got into some fish on the missouri closer to St.Louis though. On call this week for work so will have to see if I can make it out this weekend coming up.  Oh I did go and buy a snagging rod and hooks. Never been before, Can it really be that hard like people make it sound?  I guess that starts on the 15th of march.

Here we go

So I decided to do a blog about my passion. This so called passion is catfishing. So I suggest you grab a good seat and maybe a ice cold drink as we are about to embark on a season long journey of ups and downs. Hopefully there will be more ups than downs.

Also there will be a tournament at kaw point on March 29th. More info go to www.kccatfish.com
